Roger Binny's top 3 performances in Test Cricket

Roger Michael Humpries Binny was one of the best players to play for India for nearly a decade. The cricketer from Bengaluru was known to be a nippy bowler and was also more than decent with the bat. Ever since his debut, Roger Binny became a critical part of the Indian team and was a key member in the 1983 ODI World Cup win.

Born on the 19th of July 1955, Roger Binny played 27 matches for India in Test cricket and went on to score 830 runs with the bat with a best of 83 not out. Roger Binny also picked up 47 wickets.

Roger Binny made his Test debut in front of his home crowd versus Pakistan in 1979. Roger Binny went wicketless in the first innings and scored 46 runs with the bat. In the 2nd innings, for the second time in the game, Binny went wicketless as the game ended in a draw.

3- 65 vs West Indies – Mumbai -1983

India batted first and scored 463 with Dilip Vengsarkar scoring 100 and Ravi Shastri scoring 77. Roger Binny batted for 165 balls and scored 65 runs as he kept the West Indian attack at bay. West Indies scored 393 in the 1st innings with Viv Richards scoring a ton as Roger Binny went wicketless. The game ended in a draw as West Indies had to chase 244 to win with the visitors scoring 104/4 from 51 overs.

2- 83 vs Pakistan – Chennai -1983

The best-ever batting feat by Roger Binny was the 83 versus Pakistan in Chennai. India batted first and scored 275 on the board as Roger Binny scored 83 from 233 runs with 8 hits to the fence. Roger Binny and Madan Lal added 155 runs for the 7th wicket to help India out of trouble. Pakistan scored 288 with Javed Miandad scoring 99. In the 2nd innings, India scored 176/0 with Sunil Gavaskar scoring 103 not out from 185 balls.

1- 6/56 vs Pakistan – Kolkata -1987

In his final Test series for India, Roger Binny recorded his best-ever bowling figures in Test cricket. His 6/56 came in the Kolkata test where he accounted for Javed Miandad and Saleem Malik. This was followed by the big wicket of Imran Khan and later Wasim Akram, Abdul Qadir and Tausif Ahmed fell to give Roger his best-ever haul in the Test format.
