T20 World Cup 2024: Top 3 West Indian players to watch out for in their clash against England 

West Indies powered through their Group and ended as the table toppers after beating Afghanistan in their final game. Rovman Powell and his team have taken the tournament by storm with their terrific batting and amazing bowling. The two-time winners of the coveted title will face off against England in their Super-8 match. 

In their first game of the T20 World Cup 2024 against Papua New Guinea, the home team were given a huge scare by the newest team in the tournament. It took Roston Chase’s efforts with the bat to help his side win the match. In the game against Uganda, Akeal Hossein became the hero as he grabbed a fifer to help his team win by 134 runs. 

West Indies then faced New Zealand and this time they found yet another hero in Sherfane Rutherford. The left-handed batter smashed 68 runs with the bat to help his team get close to 150. Alzarri Joseph then blew the Kiwi batters with his 4-wicket haul as the West Indies team won by 13 runs. Nicholas Pooran 98 with the bat aided West Indies aided his team’s 104-run win over Afghanistan.

The left-arm spinner has been assuming the ball and been picking wickets with consistency. His partnership with Akeal Hossein in the spin department has made the duo very dangerous. Motie with his line and length can trouble the England batters and makes him one of the players to watch out for. His battle against Phil Salt and Jos Buttler can make it one of the most interesting battles.

2. Akeal Hosein

Rovman Powell has used left-arm spinner Akeal Hossein as the new-ball bowler. The left-arm spinner has the ability to bowl at one spot and doesn’t give room to the batters to open their arms. His 5 wickets against Uganda was enough to prove his threat with the bat and his figures of 2/21 from 4 overs against Afghanistan reinforced that point.

In the current T20 format, there is no one more dangerous with the bat than Nicholas Pooran. His form leading up to the T20 World Cup was phenomenal as the 29-year-old had nearly scored 500 runs during the IPL 2024 season. His 98 against Afghanistan saw him take apart the bowlers. With the likes of Mark Wood and Jofra Archer bowling, the West Indian batting star will fancy his chances and this makes him one of the players to watch for
