‘I think at the moment people might be leaning on it a bit too much’ – PBKS pacer Nathan Ellis shares insights on two bouncers per over rule

Punjab Kings’ fast bowler Nathan Ellis has emerged as a potent force in T20 cricket. With the IPL 2024 season going on, Ellis is once again ready to perform well for the PBKS side keeping the batters guessing and leading the bowling attack.

Ellis has become a T20 specialist, both in the IPL and for the Australian national team. His ability to consistently outsmart batters with his variations has earned him applause from all quarters. However, as Ellis reveals, developing these variations has been an ongoing process, one that demands constant learning and adaptation.

“T20 cricket is about being proactive and being a step ahead of the batter. So for me, it is about learning as fast as I can and implementing that in the games moving forward,” he said in an interview with Sportskeeda.

Been with Punjab for a while: Nathan Ellis

Ellis is also intrigued by the new two bouncers per over rule introduced in IPL 2024.

“I think coming into the tournament I thought it’s going to be a huge, huge asset, but I think at the moment people might be leaning on it a bit too much. I think maybe later in the tournament when the wicket starts to get a bit tired, it might be a good option,” he added.

Reflecting on his favorite moments with PBKS, Ellis cherished the opportunity to finally play in front of the home crowd at the PCA Stadium in Mohali last year, after spending his initial seasons in the COVID-19 bubble.

“I have been with Punjab for a while, but we have been in Dubai in the COVID years. I hadn’t played at the home ground yet, so my first game there was really exciting. My first game for Punjab in Sharjah was also pretty exciting,” he added.

He also spoke about playing in front of big crowds and the atmosphere at the Mohali stadium in the previous season of IPL.

“My favorite moment for Punjab would be last year when we first played in Mohali,” the bowler revealed. Ellis is yet to play his first match of the season.

For the Australian team, Ellis’ debut at home in Perth holds a special place in his heart.

“While Perth isn’t very close to home, it was still in Australia and my family got to come. My now wife was there. I got to sing the national anthem in front of my family. That was surreal. Almost like an ‘I made it’ moment,” Ellis concluded.
