Reliving Chennai Super Kings’ top 3 victories in IPL history

Chennai Super Kings led by MS Dhoni have built their supremacy in IPL. They are undoubtedly the most consistent team in the history of the franchise league. Chennai have played a record 10 finals and won 5 of them which is the joint most. In this article, we will focus on their top 3 victories in IPL history.

CSK vs MI, 2010

This is the first time Chennai Super Kings claimed the IPL throne. They battered the star-studded Mumbai Indians which had dominated the tournament throughout. The first innings for Chennai ended on a nervy note as they could only post 168 runs on the board. The target was certainly a challenging one but not a winning total. But the bowling unit of CSK made the strong Mumbai batting order struggle for every run. Eventually, Chennai won the match by 22 runs to lift their first-ever IPL title.

CSK vs SRH, 2018

The CSK fans experienced their toughest phase in the 2016 and 2017 seasons when their team was banned for a couple of seasons. However, Chennai made a roaring comeback in 2018, winning the tournament on their much-anticipated return. In the final, they met Sunrisers Hyderabad. Batting first SRH posted 178 runs on the board putting Chennai under pressure as it was a big total to chase in a final. But the two-time champions chased down the target with much ease. CSK won the final in a convincing fashion by 8 wickets to lift their third IPL title.

CSK vs GT, 2023

Another final victory but this one in the most thrilling manner. The defending champions Gujarat Titans clashed with Chennai Super Kings in last year’s IPL final. The final was interrupted due to rain but the contest turned out to be nail-biter. Batting first Gujarat gave a target of 215 runs but due to rain the match was curtailed and Chennai had to chase 171 runs in 15 overs. The Yellow army completed the run-chase on the very last ball courtesy of Ravindra Jadeja’s maverick finish.
