Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan registered a landslide victory in the country’s general election after BNP (Bangladesh National Party) called for a boycott. Abu Naser Beg, chief administrator of the Magura district confirmed the new development and stated that the 36-year-old won the election by a margin of more than 150,000 votes.

However, soon after the result was made public, Shakib was spotted slapping one of the fans in front of a huge crowd. The details behind the same are yet to be made public but the all-rounder is facing a lot of backlash on social media because of the same.

On the other hand, the cricketer is yet to comment on his massive victory. Soon after the ODI World Cup, he joined Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League Party and started campaigning in the Magura district, where he was spotted playing tennis ball cricket and taking selfies with fans among many other activities.

Meanwhile, Hasina’s political organization is set to come to term for the fifth consecutive time, as their main opposition decided to boycott the general election. It is also unclear if the cricketer will hold a significant post in the parliament as more will come to light in the coming days.

Shakib, however, has clarified that he is far from announcing his retirement. The all-rounder has backed out of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League but is likely to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup, which is slated to begin on June 1. He is expected to balance his duties as a lawmaker and a cricketer in the coming days.

In his absence, Najmul Hussain Shanto has done a commendable job as the captain of the Bangladesh team. Head coach Chandika Hathurusingha was impressed with his leadership skills on the recent tour to New Zealand and following this, he has backed the cricketer to become a full-time captain of the national team. However, he has left the decision to the selectors.
