Ever since Mitchell Marsh made his return to the Australian team, he has been a force to reckon with. The all-rounder once seemed destined as the next great but lost his way in the middle due to multiple injuries throughout his career. However, he made his Test return after four years during the Ashes tour and since then, he has been one of the regulars in the squad.

Marsh was also the second-leading run scorer for Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup, scoring 441 runs in 10 matches. He has been extremely impactful in the shortest format as well, which helped Australia win the T20 World Cup in 2022. Courtesy of his brilliance, Cricket Australia (CA) is expected to reward him with a massive contract upgrade, which will make him one of the top five highest-paid cricketers in the country.

As per The Australian, Marsh is likely to pocket a pay rise between AUD 500,000 to AUD 800,000 per year after a career-defining 2023, in which, the all-rounder scored a century in Leeds during Ashes, led the national team for the first time and also won the ODI World Cup for the first time in his career.

Marsh helps Australia seal the Test series against Pakistan in Melbourne

Marsh also played an instrumental role in Australia’s Boxing Day Test win over Pakistan. The hosts were 16/4 in the second innings when Marsh came out to bat and needed something special. That’s exactly what the Perth-born cricketer delivered as he stitched a 153-run partnership with Steve Smith to push Pakistan out of the contest.

Batting at 6, Marsh missed his century by just four runs, as he finished on 96. Even though he was elated with the series win, the cricketer revealed to be a bit disappointed having missed the century, after his father Geoff Marsh and elder brother Shaun Marsh previously failed to make it to the honours board of the iconic MCG.

“I guess there is a lot of history at this ground with the Boxing Day Test and a bloody big honours board I was close to getting on, but it wasn’t meant to be. Shaun has technically still got me, so I guess there is a bit of history there for us. But hopefully, I get one more crack at it,” Marsh had said while talking to ABC.
