The Hobart Hurricanes have defeated the Melbourne Stars by 24 runs in the 19th match of the BBL 2021/22 at the Blundstone Arena in Hobart. Hurricanes won the toss and elected to bat first, they could collect 180 runs losing 6 wickets in 20 overs.

For the Hurricanes, Ben McDermott played a devastating innings of 67 off 43 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes. Matthew Wade (39 off 27 balls) and D’Arcy Short (26 off 24 balls) were also contributors to the team. For the Stars, Andre Russell took the most number of 3 wickets, Nathan Coulter-Nile took 2, and Brady Couch took 1 wicket.

Chasing the challenging target of 181, the innings of the Stars stopped at 159 runs after losing 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs due to the brilliant bowling of the Hurricanes’ bowlers. Joe Clarke top-scored with 52 runs off 40 balls for the Stars. Hilton Cartwright and Joe Burns also played two innings for 28 and 22 runs respectively. Thomas Rogers and Riley Meredith took the maximum number of 3 wickets each for the Hurricanes. Nathan Ellis took two wickets and D’Arcy Short took one wicket.

Hobart Hurricanes finished third in the points table after winning the match. On the other hand, Melbourne Stars is at 7th position in the points table after losing.
