ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 – Final (New Zealand vs Australia)

Australia has won the final match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 by 8 wickets against New Zealand with 7 balls to spare thanks to a great innings by Mitchell Marsh at the Dubai International Stadium. After losing the toss, New Zealand lost 4 wickets in 20 overs and got a big collection of 172 runs.

Kiwi captain Kane Williamson hit 10 fours and 3 sixes to make a devastating 85-run innings off 48 balls. Martin Guptill (28 off 35 balls) and Glenn Phillips (18 off 17 balls) also scored some needy runs. For the Aussies, Josh Hazlewood took the highest number of 3 wickets conceding just 16 runs in 4 overs. Adam Zampa also took 1 wicket.

Chasing a challenging target of 173 runs, Australia lost captain Aaron Finch (5) whilst the team total was 15 runs and got into some danger. From there, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh returned the team to the match. The duo put together a 92-run stand for the second wicket partnership. Warner returned to the pavilion after scoring 53 off 38 balls, but Marsh left the field with unbeaten 77-run match-winning innings off 50 balls smashing 6 fours and 4 sixes. Glenn Maxwell also played an unbeaten innings of 28 runs off 18 balls. For the Black Caps, Trent Boult took the most number of 2 wickets with 18 runs in 4 overs.

With this victory, Australia has lifted the ICC T20 World Cup title for the first time. Mitchell Marsh has also been named Player of the Match for his unbeaten innings. David Warner has been named Player of the Series for his consistent performances throughout the tournament.
