The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is going to start on April 9. The auction of which was held on February 18 in Chennai. The batting All-rounder, Glenn Maxwell has been sold as the 3rd most expensive player of this auction. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has bought him with a hefty amount of 14.25cr. But disputes are going as he has failed to perform well in the last two editions. Some good & bad aspects of him will be shown in this article.

Maxwell has made his IPL debut against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens wearing the jersey of Delhi Daredevils. He was not out for 3 runs in that match. He got only 2 opportunities to play in his first IPL edition. Mumbai Indians picked him up into their side spending 5.3cr in 2013. But he couldn’t play more than 3 matches that time & he scored 36 runs in that 3 matches. Then, Kings XI Punjab bought him for 6cr in 2014. And he proved himself in that edition. He scored 552 runs with an average of 34.50, his strike rate was 187.75 in the tournament. He played his best innings of 95 runs that time itself.

He played for Kings XI Punjab till 2014-2017. Delhi Daredevils again snapped him for 9cr in 2018. Disputes started as he scored only 169 runs playing 12 matches with a poor average of 14.08. Later, Delhi released him & as nobody had an interest in him, he had to stay away from playing in the IPL for one year. Kings XI Punjab again started their voyage with him in 2020 buying him for 10.75cr. But he again raised disputes not playing well & he scored only 108 runs playing 13 matches with an average of 15.42.

Maxwell played an incredible inning whilst India went to tour Australia on 2020-21. He scored 54 runs off 36 balls in the 3rd T20I of that series. Apart from that, he had done exceptionally well in the ODI matches of that series. As a result, the franchisees got interested to pick him up on their side. Finally, RCB got him for 14.25cr after a huge bargain.

Now, he is ranked 7th among the batsmen and 3rd among the all-rounders in the world as per the ICC T20I rankings.
