Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal grabbed all the limelight as he smashed an impressive century on his Test debut while skipper Rohit Sharma also brought up his tenth hundred as India dominated Day 2 of the Dominica Test. The 21-year-old Jaiswal remained not out on 143 off 350 with the help of 14 fours as the visitors ended the day on 312 for the loss of just two wickets.

Beginning with the overnight score of 80/0, both the openers stitched a record-breaking 229-run partnership for India against West Indies in Test cricket. The pair surpassed Virender Sehwag and Sanjay Bangar’s stand of 201 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai which was scripted back in the year 2002. Captain Rohit finally got dismissed for 103 off 221 which included ten fours and two maximums while Shubman Gill, who batted at No. 3 couldn’t contribute much as he got out for just six.

Coming in to bat at four, Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 36 off 96. Notably, the day truly belonged to young Jaiswal, who became the 17th Indian batter to register a century on debut in the longest format of the game. With a solid lead of 162 runs, the tourists will look to pile more misery on the home side on Day 3 of the match. Meanwhile, Jaiswal will be eyeing a special record of becoming the first Indian to reach the landmark of a double century on debut.
