All eyes are on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, as India need to win the series by 4-0 to reach the World Test Championship final on their own. But the Indian fans are interested in the series between South Africa and Sri Lanka as both teams are still in contention for WTC and can replace India. They played the first Test at the Kingsmead in Durban, and the hosts convincingly won the game by a whopping 233 runs.
With this win, South Africa jumped from fifth spot to second with five wins in nine Tests. The hosts set a target of 516, as Sri Lanka commenced the Day 4 at 103/5. They were eventually bundled out for 282. There is another tweak to the points table with this win, as Australia have slipped to third position. They have eight wins in thirteen games, with four losses and one draw.
Speaking of India, they won the Perth Test against Australia, and it has helped them maintain the number one spot. The tourists won the game by 295 runs, and now they have nine wins in 15 games, with five losses and a solitary draw. Their 3-0 loss to New Zealand had dented their easy access to the WTC final berth.
