Rohit Sharma’s mother Purnima could not contain her joy as she witnessed her son for the first time since India lifted the T20 World Cup in Barbados. In a heartwarming moment, Rohit’s mother was seen hugging and covering the Indian skipper’s face with kisses after the victory parade in Mumbai on Thursday, July 4.

India won their second T20 World Cup title after 17 years by defeating South Africa by seven runs in the final. Due to Hurricane Beryl, Rohit and his team were stranded in the West Indies for three days. Team India received a rousing welcome upon their arrival in Delhi as thousands flocked to the airport to welcome the world champions.

Before travelling to Mumbai for an open bus victory parade, the team was hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a special breakfast meeting at his residence. Later, Rohit, Virat Kohli and the rest of the team were facilitated at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.

Rohit’s mother Purnima was also present at the historic event in Mumbai and couldn’t control her emotions. A video of her expressing love and happiness has gone viral on social media.

I had a doctor’s appointment, but I still came – Rohit Sharma’s mother

Purnima told The Indian Express that she was not feeling well and had an appointment with her doctor but decided to skip to attend the event.

“I have never thought I would see this day. I was not feeling well today and had a doctor’s appointment, but I still came as I wanted to see this day.”

“I can’t express my happiness. Look at the cheering. I have never experienced this kind of atmosphere. The amount of love he is getting is because of his hard work and dedication. I’m the happiest mother today,” she added.

Earlier, after India’s win, Rohit’s mother took to social media to express her emotions as her son led the team to a historic victory, ending an 11-year drought for the ICC trophy. A picture of Rohit’s daughter Samaira sitting on his shoulder as he poses with Kohli during the celebrations at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown had gone viral.

Reacting to this iconic frame, Purnima wrote: “Daughter on his shoulders. Nation on his back. Brother on his side.”
