England pacer Josh Tongue delivered a brilliant delivery to dismiss KL Rahul during the 30th over of India’s second innings on Day 4 of the second Test at Edgbaston. India resumed the day with Karun Nair and Rahul at the crease, aiming to build on their strong lead.

Tongue began his bowling with rhythm and pace, and struck on the very first ball of his over as he delivered a full-length delivery that angled into the stumps. Rahul failed to get fully forward as he  went for a drive, but the ball seamed away just enough to beat the outside edge and rattle the middle stump. The extra pace and late movement made it a near-unplayable delivery.

India had earlier posted a commanding 587 in their first innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal laid a solid foundation with 87, and Ravindra Jadeja contributed a crucial 89 in the middle order. However, it was skipper Shubman Gill who stole the show with a stunning 269, an innings laced with 33 boundaries. Washington Sundar chipped in with a valuable 42 towards the end. For England, Shoaib Bashir was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue claimed two each.

In response, England managed 407 in their first innings. The highlight was a spectacular partnership between Harry Brook (158) and Jamie Smith (184), who added 303 runs off 368 balls for the sixth wicket. However, the rest of the batting line-up faltered, with six batters falling for ducks. India’s bowling was spearheaded by Mohammed Siraj, who grabbed six wickets, while Akash Deep took four wickets, cleaning up the rest.

With a 180-run lead at the end of Day 3, India came into their second innings in a strong position. By Lunch on Day 4, they had extended their lead past 350 runs, but lost a few quick wickets as Karun Nair (26), and Rahul were dismissed in the morning session.
