Video of the Day: Varun Chakravarthy bamboozles Harry Brook again, evokes wry smile from batter

Varun Chakravarthy was back at it once again, as he ripped through the defence of Harry Brook for the second time in a span of three days to strike timber. The moment of repetition occurred during the second T20I of the five-match series between India and England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Saturday, January 25.

The encore came just after the powerplay, which happened to be Chakravarthy’s third delivery of the evening. It was a classic back-of-the-hand delivery by Chakravarthy. It was the extra bounce and the bat-pad gap which proved to be the undoing for Brook, who could only smile wryly in response after the ball kissed the top of off stump.

Here’s the video of the dismissal –

Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar take cheeky dig at Brook post dismissal

The action had not ended just yet. Commentating on-air at that juncture, former Indian luminaries, Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar, threw a witty barb each at Brook post the batter getting cleaned up.

“Once again, it’s Varun Chakravarthy. You don’t need the smog, this is a sneak-through and it’s crashed into the stumps,” commented Shastri.

“Varun Chakravarthy looking at him, he might be asking if there’s any smog,” remarked Gavaskar.

For the unversed, the English T20I vice-captain had recently come out with a statement that it was the smog in the first T20I in Kolkata which hindered the English batters while batting against spin. Brook’s remarks did not quite sit well with the Indian cricket fraternity.

As far as the match is concerned, India once again won the toss and opted to bowl first. Skipper, Jos Buttler, was once again the top-scorer for the visitors. He ended up with a breezy 30-ball 45.

At the time of writing, England are on the front foot with the hosts requiring 71 runs from eight overs with five wickets in hand.
