The draft for the Big Bash League (BBL) and the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) will take place on Sunday, September 1, in Melbourne. As many as 432 players in the BBL and 161 in the WBBL will be up for grabs in the draft.

This year will be the third season the BBL will hold an overseas player draft and the second for the WBBL. A star-studded lineup of international fast bowlers headline the full list of player nominations for this year’s overseas players draft. Jofra Archer, Haris Rauf, and Lungi Ngidi are among the biggest names as far as pacers are concerned among the nominees in the men’s draft. Among the batters, Fakhar Zaman, Jason Roy, and Dawid Malan could be the star attractions. One of the masters of England’s ‘Bazball’ approach in Test cricket, Ben Duckett, is also available in the draft.

In the WBBL draft, the likes of Alice Capsey, Harmanpreet Kaur, Danni Wyatt, Suzie Bates, and Shabnim Ismail will be among the many star players looking for new destinations.

Cricketers from 30 countries have nominated across both drafts, including all major cricketing nations as well as other emerging countries like Hong Kong, Uganda, Japan, Greece, Indonesia, and Romania.

The 2024/25 season of WBBL gets underway on October 27 and will conclude on December 1. Meanwhile, the men’s tournament commences on December 15 and the summit clash will be played on January 27.

Brisbane Heat won the last edition of the BBL as they got the better of Sydney Sixers in the title clash by 54 runs at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Meanwhile, Adelaide Strikers emerged victorious in the WBBL last year after defeating Brisbane Heat in the final by just three runs at the Adelaide Oval. Cricket aficionados can expect another riveting season of cricketing action Down Under with top-notch athletes set to sizzle in the popular franchise competition.
