Tilak Varma becomes first batter to hit three consecutive T20 hundreds

Star India batter Tilak Varma recently made history as he became the only batter to score three consecutive centuries in the T20 format. The 22-year-old achieved the feat as the Hyderabad skipper against Meghalaya in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

He opened his tournament campaign with a century against Meghalaya on Saturday, November 23. It is worth noting that Varma scored 151 runs in 67 deliveries as he took Hyderabad to a score of 248/4. Varma’s knock of 151 runs is also the highest individual score by a player in the tournament’s history.

The century was Tilak’s third consecutive T20 century as he had recently scored two back-to-back centuries for India in the recently concluded four-match T20I series against South Africa. The 22-year-old scored an unbeaten 107 off 56 in Centurion and followed it up with an unbeaten 120 off just 47 in Johannesburg to help India clinched the series 3-1.

Meghalaya require 249 runs to win clash against Hyderabad

Speaking of the ongoing clash between Hyderabad and Meghalaya, Hyderabad came in to bat first and put in an exceptional performance in the first innings. They opened their innings with Rahul Singh Gahlaut departing for a duck and Tanmay Agarwal scoring 55 off 23.

Skipper Varma came in to bat after the fall of the first wicket and put in a performance of a lifetime,  amassing 151 in just 67. Varma’s effort helped Hyderabad post a massive 248 on the board in the first innings,

As for Meghalaya, Dippu was the highest wicket-taker with two wickets to his name. Akash Kumar and Himan took one wicket each as well. Coming out to bat, Meghalaya will hope for a good performance with the bat and chase down 249 runs in the second innings.
