‘This is sort of second life for us’ – Snehasish Ganguly and his wife evade near-fatal incident in Puri, video surfaces online

Ex-Bengal cricketer Snehasish Ganguly, also the elder brother of former India captain Sourav Ganguly, and his wife Arpita survived by a whisker in Puri, Odisha, as their speedboat capsized in the sea. They were enjoying a water sports activity by the beach when the near-fatal incident occurred.

A viral video shows the speedboat upside down in the turbulent sea waters as lifeguards sprang into action to rescue tourists. Arpita and other tourists were rescued with the help of rubber floats.

Arpita alleged that the boat was light due to a lesser capacity of passengers on the boat, and this caused it to overturn. She acknowledged the timely intervention from the lifeguards, which helped them survive a close call.

“The sea was already very rough. There was a capacity of 10 people on the boat, but due to the greed for money, they allowed only three to four people on board. This was the last boat to go into the sea for the day. We had raised concerns over going into the sea, but the operators told us that it is fine,” Arpita was quoted as saying by NDTV.

“If the lifeguards had not come, we would not have been saved. I’m still in trauma…never faced something like this. If there were more people on the boat, maybe it would not have flipped,” she added.

Meanwhile, Snehasish, who is currently the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), described the incident as life-threatening.

“It was a life-threatening accident. The boat capsized and we were saved by the local people and fishermen. I thank Lord Jagannath. This is sort of second life for us,” Snehasish told Cricbuzz.
