Sheldon Jackson becomes batter with most sixes in Ranji Trophy history

Saurashtra are playing their final Ranji Trophy 2024-25 league game against Assam in Rajkot. One of Saurashtra’s key batters, Sheldon Jackson, became the batter to hit the most number of sixes in the history of the tournament.

He entered the crucial game and batted at number four and his milestone six came against Assam pacer Rahul Singh over cow corner. With that, he overtook Naman Ojha’s tally of 143 sixes in his 100th Ranji game. It is worth noting that Jackson is the third-highest run-scorer for Saurashtra behind Cheteshwar Pujara and Sitanshu Kotak. He has over 6000 runs in the domestic tournament.

Other than this, Jackson is also the second to Pujara in terms of centuries scored for the team. While the veteran India cricketer has 25 centuries to his name, the 38-year-old Sheldon has scored 19 off his 21 centuries for Saurashtra. Having made his first-class debut in 2011-12, he has over 7000 runs in his career. Sheldon is also a part of the elusive club of players to hit 100-plus sixes in Ranji alongside Manish Pandey, Paras Dogra, Saurabh Tiwary and Yusuf Pathan.

Contribution in Saurashtra’s two Ranji Titles

His standout performance for the Saurashtra came in 2019-20 season, where he was the top-scorer for the team. He scored 809 runs at an average of over 50. Moreover, he smashed three hundreds, including a match-winning one in the semi-final. The state went onto lift its maiden Ranji Trophy title that year.
