SA20 2025: Durban's Super Giants rope in Allan Donald as bowling coach

Allan Donald takes up role of bowling coach for Durban Super Giants

In a fresh development, former South Africa fast bowler, Allan Donald, has been appointed as the bowling coach of Durban’s Super Giants for the forthcoming season of the SA20 2025. Notably, the league is slated to commence on January 9, 2025.

The first two editions of the tournament had the current bowling coach of the Indian team, Morne Morkel, as their bowling coach. Besides the former South African legend, an already illustrious coaching setup consists of head coach Lance Klusener, fielding coach Jonty Rhodes, assistant coach Sridharan Sriram, and strength & conditioning coach Jason Douglas, respectively. Durban took to their social media handle to confirm Donald’s integration into their setup.

Donald, who represented South Africa from 1991 to 2003, was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2019. has a wealth of coaching experience, something he would want to bring into his stint with the Giants. Besides, the Bloemfontein-born has worked with Bangladesh, New Zealand, and South Africa as a bowling coach before. When it comes to franchise cricket, he boasts of stints with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Pune Warriors India.

Beefed up DSG aiming for maiden title in 2025 

After finishing runners-up in the previous season of the SA20, DSG will be aiming to go all the way this time around. Apart from Donald, they have also acquired Kane Williamson, Brandon King, and Chris Woakes.

The likes of Proteas internationals including Heinrich Klaasen, Quinton de Kock, and Keshav Maharaj will continue to be a pivotal component of the franchise. The SA20 2025 auction will require DSG to fill three slots – one each for an open player, an open overseas player, and a rookie slot with a remaining purse of 2.35 million Rands.
