The hosts took on Bangladesh (BAN) in the second Test of the series at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, on (Friday) September 27. Team India (IND) won the toss and opted to bowl first. Pacer Akash Deep continued his momentum in the second Test and jolted Bangladesh’s top order early in the innings.

He dismissed Zakir Hassan and later picked up Shadman Islam as two Bangladesh openers were back in the hut with 29 runs on the board.

While Zakir departed for a 24-ball duck, Shadman could not convert his start and walked back after scoring 24 off 36. Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto started building the partnership and put up 61 runs for the third wicket.

Visiting skipper Shanto looked good during his brief stay (31 off 57) at the crease but was outdone by the ace India spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin. As a result, Ashwin surpassed the legendary Anil Kumble to become the most successful bowler in Tests for India in the Asian continent. Mominul found a new partner in the form of Mushfiqur Rahim and before rain intervened, the duo remained unbeaten on 40* and six runs, respectively.

The rain arrived an hour before the Tea. Earlier due to bad light, the game started with a delay of an hour in the morning. As the rain started to cede, the bad light could not improve and the game had to be called off with just 35 over bowled and Bangladesh scoring 107 runs having lost three wickets in the process.
