India is all set to host the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup from October 5 to November 19. The 2019 World Cup finalists New Zealand and England will lock horns in the tournament opener at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The much-awaited ICC global event is scheduled to be contested in ten venues across the country. Earlier in June, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had announced that five venues will be refurbished ahead of the tournament. The iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata is one of five venues shortlisted by the apex body for renovations.

The Eden Gardens will host four matches of the ODI World Cup. The iconic stadium will also become the venue for the high-voltage semi-final 2, slated to be played on November 16. Apart from the knockout match, Netherlands-Bangladesh, Pakistan-Bangladesh, India-South Africa, and England-Pakistan are the games to be held at the iconic venue.

Meanwhile, the hosts will begin their campaign against five-time champions Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, on October 8. Meanwhile, the much-anticipated match between the arch-rivals India and Pakistan will be played on October 13, in Ahmedabad.

India to play Australia at home before heading to ODI World Cup 2023

Team India will have a lot of motivation since they are coming off a successful run in the Asia Cup 2023. Rohit Sharma and Co. outplayed the defending champions Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final to win the continental championship for the eighth time.

India will host Australia in a three-match ODI series prior to the World Cup, with the opening match taking place at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on September 22. Following their victory in the Asia Cup, the two-time World Cup champions are currently the number two-ranked ODI team with 114.659 ratings. The Men in Blue will enter the World Cup as the top-ranked team if they manage to win the forthcoming series.
