According to reports, reigning champions Mumbai have suffered a major blow ahead of their Ranji Trophy 2024-25 semi-final clash against Vidarbha as they will be without the services of star batter, Yashasvi Jaiswal. Mumbai and Vidarbha lock horns at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, in Nagpur, starting on Monday, February 17.

Jaiswal, who had been named as a “non-travelling reserve” in the Indian team for the Champions Trophy 2025, has been ruled out after experiencing left ankle pain, according to a report from Times of India. The southpaw will now head to BCCI’s Centre of Excellence for further assessment of his injury and necessary treatment.

“Jaiswal has been ruled out of the Ranji Trophy semifinals clash as he is suffering from a left ankle pain. He fielded in Mumbai’s practice session at Nagpur, but looked uncomfortable while batting in the nets. It is an old injury which has recurred. He has to leave for the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence tomorrow to start his recovery process,” a reliable source said as per Times of India (TOI).

Jaiswal’s absence may impact India and Mumbai squads

The sudden and unfortunate development could force the BCCI into naming a new “non-travelling reserve” for the Indian team. Yashasvi Jaiswals absence is going to be a huge setback for Mumbai as they square off against an in-form Vidarbha side.

Mumbai is unlikely to add a new member to their squad to replace Jaiswal. The Ajinkya Rahane-led side added the youngster as the 18th player for the important encounter. Notably, the star-studded side reached the semi-final after beating Haryana by 152 runs in the quarter-finals in Kolkata. Meanwhile, Vidarbha progressed to the semis after a 198-run win against Tamil Nadu.

The other semi-final is going to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad between Gujarat and Kerala. The final is scheduled to begin on February 26.
