The deadline day for the franchises to reveal their list of retained players gets closer, and countless discussions and speculations have risen to an unprecedented level around the IPL (Indian Premier League) retentions. In the midst of all of this buzz, some fresh developments have been reported as far as the camp of Rajasthan Royals (RR) is concerned.

As per the latest reports, RR is all set to retain batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson, an all-rounder in the form of Riyan Parag, and right-arm seamer, Sandeep Sharma. In what appears to be significant news, England’s white-ball skipper Jos Buttler and India legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal don’t seem to be part of RR’s plans. Hence they are all set to be released by the franchise for the upcoming IPL mega auction.

Wicketkeeping sensation, Dhruv Jurel, who was bought by the franchise for an amount of INR 20 lakhs during the mega auction in 2022, has by far been one of the biggest revelations of their side. In the 22 innings he has played so far, Jurel has struck at a fiery 151.52 and is reported to be in contention of being retained via the Right To Match (RTM) card option. It was also anticipated that the Royals would lose at least INR 65 crore at the auction if they included Jurel in the aforementioned list of four to make it five players retained via the direct process.

Quite fascinatingly, the experienced pacer Sandeep Sharma is on the verge of getting classified as an uncapped player according to a rule that was reinstated by the IPL for the imminent edition.

Kohli set to return to IPL captaincy for second spell: Reports

Diverting attention to another popular IPL franchise, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), several reports have emerged which suggest the likelihood of Virat Kohli being handed the captaincy for the second time. Having led the side from 2013 to 2021, Kohli has led RCB to the playoffs on four instances.

The primary motive behind this is reasoned to be Faf du Plessis’ age coming into the picture. After Kohli expressed his desire to the management to lead the side, the upper echelons have been primed to hand the ropes of captaincy back to the former Indian skipper.
