Reports: Durbar Rajshahi owner to clear players’ dues by 10th February

Reports: Durbar Rajshahi owner to clear players' dues by 10th February

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise Durbar Rajshahi is facing problems. There were claims that the franchise has not paid their dues which is affecting the players as well. The dues of the franchise were supposed to be cleared on February 2 by team owner Shafiqur Rahman but it turns out the players have still not been paid.

This has led Asif Mahmud who is the government advisor on matters of Sports and Youth Affairs to speak to the owner and warned him of facing some consequences of not clearing his dues to the players with the fact-finding committee also looking into this matter. In the end, the ministry finally issued a statement that said that the dues of the players would be cleared by 10th February in three installments and if not cleared there would be some legal action taken against Rahman.

“He [Rahman] accepted his fault and promised to clear all dues of the team in three installments of 25 percent each on February 3, 7, and 10, He also assured that alongside the players, everyone involved with the team would also receive their payments in each installment. Otherwise, whatever necessary legal actions will be taken against him,” The statement read.

This non-payment of dues had also resulted in some overseas players being stranded in a team hotel in Dhaka waiting for their portion of payments to come in. The overseas players who were stranded are Mohammad Haris (Pakistan), Aftab Alam (Afghanistan), Mark Deyal (West Indies), Ryan Burl (Zimbabwe) and Miguel Cummins (West Indies).

Speaking of the performance of the Durbar Rajashahi the franchise finished fifth in the league this season with six wins and six losses in the 12 matches and eventually missed out on the playoffs as well due to poor net run rate. The highest run scorer for the franchise was Anamul Haque with 392 runs and the highest wicket-taker was Taskin Ahmed with 25 wickets.
