The 2025 edition of the SA20 will commence on Thursday, January 9. This edition promises to be an action-packed event due to the diverse set of players – both seasoned veterans and budding talents – blending together.

Skipper of Paarl Royals, David Miller, seemed all set for the tournament. He shared that he was excited to have the likes of Dinesh Karthik and Joe Root in his squad. He also expressed that he was confident of his squad’s preparedness ahead of their campaign.

“Really exciting for me to kind of tap into experienced players like Dinesh Karthik and Joe Root. But just on a whole, the guys are training really well. I think we’ve got a golf day later this afternoon, so that’s going to go down well. But yeah, warm-up game yesterday, the day before I think it was, and then tomorrow as well, so the prep is going well,” said Miller during an interview with Star Sports.

For the unversed, Karthik, who recently retired from international cricket and the Indian Premier League, will be featuring as a player-cum-brand ambassador. Additionally, Root will be playing his maiden SA20 season.

Some exciting young players have come through: Miller

Speaking further, the left-handed South African batter was excited to work alongside former English domestic legend and head coach of the Royals, Trevor Penny.

“I think this year we’ve got quite a few new faces, some exciting young players that have come through. We’ve got some seriously good talent there, so excited to have them. A new coach as well, Trevor Penny, someone that has four passports – Australia, England, Canada, and Zimbabwe – so he’s well-experienced and travelled. He’s been around the world for many years coaching and playing, so good to have him in the set-up as well,” said Miller.
