Ace Australia spinner Nathan Lyon has picked the top three batters he has played against in his stellar career thus far. He is currently part of Australia’s Test squad for the series against Pakistan at home, which the hosts are leading 2-0. The third and final game between both sides will be contested at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), starting from January 3, Wednesday.

Ahead of the third Test, Lyon named the three best players he has played against, which included two Indian stars, Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar while the other one is Proteas legend AB de Villiers. Lyon, who completed 500 Test wickets during the opening Test against Pakistan in Perth, also opened up the difficulties he has faced while bowling against them.

“The best player I have played against, that’s a very hard question. I have played against some of the greats of the game. I will give you three (names), they will be Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, and AB de Villiers. The secret to get them out, something that I struggle to do, would be trying to challenge their defence for a long period of time,” Lyon said in a video.

Lyon ‘proud’ after achieving 500 Test wickets

Nathan Lyon further spoke about his 500-wicket milestone, which he achieved during his 123rd Test match, stating he feels very proud.

“It’s something I’m very proud about, I don’t think it’s hit me yet. There’s obviously been a lot of hard work gone into the journey and I’ve had a lot more bad days than good days, but to be back out there in the middle … it’s pretty special,” he said.

The 36-year-old went on to express his joy after joining the elite list of spin legends Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne. “I still pinch myself when I see my name next to those guys,” he added.
