MPL 2025 Match 25 Review: Tanay Sanghvi stars with the ball as Raigad Royals register thrilling win against Satara Warriors

Raigad Royals got the better of Satara Warriors in a rain-curtailed contest at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Tuesday, June 17.

Satara skipper Saurabh Nawale won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Royals got off to a slow start, aggregating just 27 runs in the first five overs, with Vicky Ostwal being the batter dismissed for eight runs. After a rain break, the match was reduced to 10 overs per side.

Siddhesh Veer played some fine shots, but Digvijay Patil couldn’t get going, and he was eventually retired out after scoring 16 off 18 balls. Niraj Joshi hit a couple of boundaries before being dismissed in the final over. Rushabh Rathod, the Raigad captain, played a crucial cameo, hitting two fours in four balls and finishing unbeaten on 11. Veer carried his bat to finish not out on 33 off 23 balls, belting three fours and a six.

For Satara, Samandhan Pagare and Rs Hangargekar took one wicket apiece. Raigad reached 85/3 in 10 overs. The target was revised by the DLS method, and Satara needed to chase down 94 runs to win the match.

Satara got off to a disastrous start as openers Pavan Shah and Om Bhasale were dismissed in the first two overs. Harshal Kate looked in terrific touch, even as he saw wickets falling from the other end. Tanay Sanghvi struck twice off consecutive balls in the seventh over, as he sent Aniket Porwal and Mehul Patel packing in similar fashion, edging the ball to short third man fielder Shubham Kadam, who showed great awareness and agility to take both catches while diving to his left.

Satara lost half their side with 57 runs on the board in the seventh over. Vaibhav Chougalle played an enterprising role, scoring 16 runs off nine balls. In the last over, 17 runs were required for a win. Sanghvi conceded just two runs off the first three balls and picked up the wicket of Hangargekar. Kate hit two out of the last three balls for sixes but couldn’t take his team over the line. Satara lost by two runs in the end, finishing on 91/8. Sanghvi won the Player of the Match award after finishing with figures of 3/25 in two overs.
