Australia skipper Pat Cummins’ mother Maria Cummins passed away on March 10, 2023, after batting with a prolonged illness. The 29-year-old notably left India after the second Test of the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy in order to be with his mother in her last few days. The cricketer also pulled himself out of the ongoing ODI series in order to be with his family during the hard times.

On March 18, Cummins shared a few photos with his mother during some of the important times of his life. He also shared his childhood photos as fans, in the comment section, poured love and showed a lot of support for the cricketer. In the caption, he also mentioned how much he loves his mother and that she will forever be in the hearts of her loved ones.

“Love you Mum. Forever in our hearts,” Cummins wrote.

Notably, the Australian team also wore a black armband on Day 2 of the fourth Test against India at Ahmedabad in order to pay a tribute to Maria Cummins.

Australia handed a five-wicket defeat in first ODI against India

In the absence of skipper Pat Cummins, Steve Smith is currently leading the Australian side in the ongoing three-match ODI series against India. On the other hand, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma too missed the first ODI but the Men in Blue nevertheless managed to register a five-wicket win over the visitors.

Batting first, Australia started well as Mitchell Marsh gave them a perfect start. The 31-year-old was playing some remarkable cricket before getting out on 81 off 65 deliveries. Now, post his dismissal, Australia fell like a house of cards and were bundled for 188 runs only.

While chasing, India faced the wrath of Mitchell Starc as the ace pacer dismissed Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav in quick succession. However, KL Rahul showed a lot of maturity and played a brilliant innings to help India win the first match of the series. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 75* off 95 while all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja supported him well in the middle, scoring 45* off 69. With that, India won the match comfortably and took a 1-0 lead in the series.
