In a recent discussion, he recounted an episode from 2007 that involved former World Cup-winning Indian legend, Yuvraj Singh.

In a recent discussion, Modi looked back on Yuvraj’s iconic six sixes in an over against England at the T20 World Cup fixture being played at Kingsmead in Durban as well as how the foundation of the IPL was laid due to that historic encounter. He also shed light on gifting Yuvraj a Porsche in exchange for his Hero Honda bat with which he battered Stuart Broad on September 19, 2007.

“Nobody has hit six sixes in an over, nobody has taken six wickets in an over. Anyone who hits six sixes or takes six wickets (in an over), I’ll give you a Porsche out of my pocket. Nothing to do with the BCCI. And one fine day, Yuvraj Singh blasts six sixes. My god, those six sixes were the start of the IPL, you know. It lit the fire of the Indian television, the news channels,” shared Modi while conversing with famous YouTuber, Raj Shamani.

“Yuvraj comes running to me on the field and says, ‘Lalit, where is my Porsche?’ I said, ‘Give me the bloody bat,’ and the bat is downstairs,” shared Modi.

Modi has played an instrumental role when it comes to commercial matters related to the IPL and Indian cricket. He was the founder and first chairperson of the marquee league. Additionally, he also served as the League Commissioner of the competition until 2010. His stint as the vice-president of the BCCI ran from 2005 to 2010, post which he fled the country to seek protection.
