Delhi and Railways clashed in the seventh-round clash in the 2024-25 edition of the Ranji Trophy at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The hosts ended up winning the game by an innings and 19 runs. Although most of the Railways players failed to live up to the hype of the contest, Himanshu Sangwan certainly did.

The Delhi-born right-arm medium pacer, who was representing Railways, got the big wicket of ace Indian batter, Virat Kohli, who was making his Ranji Trophy comeback after a 12-year span. Kohli’s off stump was uprooted by an absolute ripper of a delivery, which managed to angle in and sneak through the bat-pad gap.

He shared Kohli’s motivational words during when he had gone to the Delhi dressing room to get the ball signed by the star cricketer himself.

“When I gave him (Kohli) the ball to sign it, he asked, ‘is this the same ball with which you got me out? Kya gend thi yaar, maza aagaya (what a beautiful delivery it was, it was truly special). Kaafi teekhe bowler ho (you are a really good bowler). Keep working hard. Best wishes for your future’,” shared Sangwan during an interaction with The Indian Express.

It was special for all of us: Himanshu

The 29-year-old pacer also confessed that Kohli’s dismissal during the game against Delhi was the “most important wicket” of his life.

“It is the most important wicket of my life. It goes without saying. Virat Kohli is an inspiration to the whole country. This was the first time in my life I saw so many people turning up for a Ranji Trophy game. It was special for all of us,” added Himanshu.

In the 11 innings he featured for Railways in the ongoing edition, Himanshu accounted for 18 dismissals at an average of 24.27. His economy rate of 2.96 which was maintained over 147.2 overs was quite impressive too.
