Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah is the fourth-highest wicket-taker among pacers in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. He joined Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of IPL 2013 after John Wright, who was the head coach at the time, was impressed by his exploits in the 2013-14 season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Since then, the Ahmedabad-born cricketer hasn’t looked back as he has helped MI win the coveted IPL title on five occasions.

Bumrah is the first bowler to have held the No. 1 ranking in all three formats of the game in international cricket. He recently won the Player of the Tournament award in the T20 World Cup 2024 as India lifted the title after 17 years.

Last month, MI announced their retentions ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. The 30-year-old speedster was the first pick in the retention process, signing a staggering INR 18 crore deal. He got a better salary than MI captain Hardik Pandya and India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav, who got INR 16.35 crore each. Meanwhile, India’s Test and ODI skipper Rohit Sharma secured an INR 16.30 crore deal. This accentuates Bumrah’s stature in modern-day cricket and the value he brings to the dressing room.

Bumrah has played 133 IPL matches and picked up 165 wickets at an average of 22.52 and a strike rate of 18.50. He has an economy rate of just 7.30, which is incredible for someone who bowls in the powerplay and also at the death.

His contributions have been rewarded handsomely by the MI franchise as Bumrah will be earning INR 5.36 lakhs for every ball he bowls in the IPL 2025.

Here’s the arithmetical understanding of Bumrah’s per-ball earnings at IPL 2025

S. No. Particulars Value
A Total Matches 14 Matches
B Overs Bowled Per Match 4 Overs
C Balls Per Over 6 Balls
D Total Balls Bowled 14 x 4 x 6 (A x B x C) = 336 Balls
E Total Payment INR 18 Crore
F Earnings Per Ball

18 Crore ÷ 336 (D/E) =

INR 5.36 Lakhs
