New Zealand youngster Rachin Ravindra has made quite a name for himself at the ongoing ODI World Cup Being just 23 years old, Ravindra is the highest run-getter of the tournament, with 565 runs to his name in nine innings. Being the breakout star of the prestigious competition, it seems like the youngster has won the hearts of the Indian fans as well.

Recently, as New Zealand took on Sri Lanka in the 41st game of the tournament at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, the fans were seen chanting Rachin Ravindra’s name as he walked out to bat during the run chase. It is worth noting that Bangalore was the hometown of Ravindra’s family before they moved to New Zealand, and being a local boy, the love that the 23-year-old has been getting has been immense.

Talking of the same, Ravindra came forward to state that the love from the Indian fans has been surreal and that he is grateful for every bit of support fans have shown him at the World Cup 2023.

“It’s a pretty surreal feeling, and I am grateful for the support, especially playing in Bangalore. The crowd chanting my name is something I will never take for granted. I dreamt of it as a child. I feel very happy to be here; lucky enough, it worked out,” Rachin Ravindra told Star Sports.

I have idolized Kane Williamson: Ravindra

With three centuries in the ODI World Cup 2023 and being the highest run-getter, it is interesting to think that Ravindra almost did not get his chance in the side for the tournament. The 23-year-old was included in the starting lineup after skipper Kane Williamson took longer to recover from his knee injury.

“Six to 12 months ago, I wasn’t even in the frame. It’s a funny one. I have idolized Kane. I have idolized a lot, like Virat Kohli, Steven Smith, and Joe Root. But Kane, his leadership, on and off the field, just keeps it calm,” Ravindra said.
