Ireland are set to host the West Indies starting from May 21. The two teams will face each other in three ODIs and three T20Is. This will also be the first time after 2019 that the Green and Whites will be hosting the Caribbean Giants.

The Irish announced their squad for the ODIs and T20Is today. The team will be led by star opening batter Paul Stirling, with Lorcan Tucker named as his deputy. The series will also feature three uncapped players within the squad, including young top-order batter Cade Carmichael and two upcoming Irish pace bowlers in Tom Mayes and Liam McCarthy.

The three players have been giving impressive performances in domestic cricket and have also received high praise from National Men’s Selector Andrew White, who also explains the reason behind selecting the three players. While Carmichael and Mayes will be part of the ODI setup, McCarthy is part of both the ODI and T20I squads.

“Cade Carmichael has been in the pathway for several years now. His talent, stroke play, and resilience were on full display for the Wolves in April, and his rise over the last couple of years is a real demonstration of how consistent performances – and his ability to adapt his game to conditions – have been recognised with an International call-up,” White said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

“In a similar vein, two seam bowlers – Liam McCarthy and Tom Mayes – have also been recognised for consistency and demonstrating the ability to step their game up a level at each time of asking. Both players offer something different to the squad – Mayes with his height and accuracy, while McCarthy brings a slightly different dynamic to our attack and will certainly challenge the batters techniques,” White added.
