The retentions ahead of the coveted Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) mega auctions meant that the franchise had a hard task at hand. Letting go of some of the best in the team surely becomes a tough pill to swallow. Subsequently, the majority of the teams would opt for their nurtured players to continue while releasing quite a few brilliant talents, both Indian and overseas.
This year’s retention was no different as some shocking names got released and made it to the marquee players list. The likes of Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer might have loosened the purse of their franchises, but they might be in the eyes of camps with swollen wallets entering the fray on November 24 and 25, respectively, at the Abady Al Johar Arena, in the Jeddah city of Saudi Arabia.
When it comes to overseas, there were apprehensions within the teams as several foreign players left the tournament midway owing to their national duties. But, BCCI’s stern rule over the same and also the rigid move, where it stated that a player will banned for two years from IPL if he pulls out after being picked at auction has given franchises an air of confidence going ahead.
