Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders are playing their penultimate game of the IPL 2024 season. The match began nearly two hours late as the start was delayed due to rains. Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl first and went in with the same team that beat SRH.

Kolkata Knight Riders came into the game needing a win to become the first team to make it to the playoffs. The home team just made one change as they replaced Angkrish Raghuvanshi with Nitish Rana. The left-handed batter was making his return to the team after suffering an injury which saw him play just once this season.

Powerplay: Overs 0.1 to 5 (Mandatory – 45/3)

Venkatesh Iyer was batting well once again but none of the other batters could do much against a fired-up Mumbai Indians bowling unit. Phil Salt began by hitting the first ball of the game for a six before falling to Nuwan Thushara. Jasprit Bumrah and Anshul Kamboj then got two wickets to push the hosts in further trouble.

Kolkata Knight Riders: 50 runs off 5.4 overs

Despite the wickets falling at one end, Venkatesh Iyer didn’t let it affect him as he continued to score runs at a rapid pace. With a four off Hardik Pandya the fifty was on the board for KKR inside the 6th over in what is a rain-shortened game.

Kolkata Knight Riders: First Strategic time-out (61/3 from 7 overs)

Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer did well to curb the fall of wickets as the pair added 21 runs post the fall of the 3rd wicket. Anshul Kamboj was impressive yet again with the ball as he got the key wicket of KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer.

Kolkata Knight Riders: 100 runs from 10.2 overs

Piyush Chawla got into action with his very first ball when he got the wicket of Venkatesh Iyer for 42. Andre Russell came out and started to take the MI bowlers to the cleaners right from the start as Nitish Rana gave him good support to take the score past 100 runs.

Kolkata Knight Riders: Second Strategic time-out (125/6 from 13 overs)

Mumbai Indians’ fielders and bowlers were spot on as they kept the KKR batters on a tight leash. Tilak Varma pulled off an amazing throw to run out Nitish Rana, while Piyush Chawla bowled a quicker and had the big wicket of Andre Russell for 24 runs off 14 balls.

End of the innings: Kolkata Knight Riders: 157/7 from 16 overs

Former Mumbai Indians player Ramandeep Singh swung the last ball for a six to take the KKR side close to the 160 mark. Mumbai Indians bowlers did well to keep KKR to 157 considering the firepower the home possesses with the bat.
