Hosts Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and visitors Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) exchanged blows in Match 46 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024), at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, on Saturday, April 28. SRH won the toss and opted to field first. Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed joy over batting despite losing the toss. But his elation could not stay for longer as his partner Ajinkya Rahane departed scoring 9 off 12. CSK were in dire need of resurgence as the powerplay fetched just 50 runs.

He was joined by Daryl Mitchell who was having a forgettable tournament so far. As CSK does with their players, the Kiwi was backed to the T. Both Gaikwad and Mitchell stitched a crucial 105-run stand for the second wicket. Mitchell departed for 52 off 32, and Shivam Dube entered the fray with 39 balls to go. Gaikwad departed on the second delivery of the 20th over, after a scintillating 98-run knock. With MS Dhoni’s boundary and Dube’s two sixes in the final over, CSK posted 212/3.

CSK splurge boundaries after strategic time-out

Gaikwad was the one challenging every bowler as Mitchell batted under the shadows. After the conclusion of nine overs, Chennai were 82 for 1. CSK’s captain was at 36 and the all-rounder at 20. The next eleven balls saw 18 runs being scored the batters went further striking boundaries.

T Natarajan goes for 17 runs in the 17th over

Natarajan bowled his most expensive over in the entire IPL 2024 season. He was taken to the cleaners by the marauding Dube who knew the shortcomings. Short delivery was pulled cautiously and the fuller deliveries were directed towards the stand. Dube hit him for two sixes and the over included two wides, one of which was successfully reviewed by the southpaw.

Jaydev Unadkat bowls a miserly 19th over

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube aimed for a larger-than-life finish with the form they were in. But Unadkat had other plans as he relied heavily on the slower deliveries. The over was a mix-up of the back-of-a-hand deliveries and off-cutters. He concedes just eight runs and halted the carnage that was upon SRH’s head.
