Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami once again emerged as one of Gujarat Titan’s most dependable players this season as the 32-year-old picked up four wickets to completely demolish Sunrisers Hyderabad’s momentum when these two teams met on May 15 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

The ace pacer dismissed Anmolpreet Singh in the first over of the second innings itself while in his second over, he picked up the wicket of Rahul Tripathi and on his third, the cricketer sent Aiden Markram back to the pavilion.

SRH looked clueless in the middle as Shami looked really dangerous with the new ball. Later on, in the 17th over of the match, when Hardik Pandya once again brought Shami into the attack, the pacer dismissed Heinrich Klaasen, who was the only SRH batter to show some intent for the visitors. Nevertheless, Shami got his man and picked up four wickets in the match with which, he became the current holder of the IPL Purple Cap. GT, in the end, won the match by 34 runs and cemented their position at the top of the IPL points table.

Notably, credit goes to Mohit Sharma as well, who just like Shami, picked up four wickets in the match. The pacer absolutely ran through SRH’s middle order as he picked up the wickets of Sanvir Singh, Abdul Samad, Marco Jansen and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

In the ongoing edition of IPL 2023, the 34-year-old has altogether picked up 17 wickets in 10 matches and has played a massive part in GT’s success this season. Thus, ahead of the IPL playoffs, skipper Hardik would be much more relaxed with regards to his bowlers.

When it comes to batters, Shubman Gill registered his maiden century for Gujarat Titans against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The 23-year-old smacked 101 runs off 58 deliveries as his innings, in the end, proved to be the difference maker. Sai Sudharsan too supported him in the middle and thus gave multiple positives for the defending champions to celebrate.

Meanwhile, next up, they will be travelling to Bengaluru to take on Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 21.
