The second season of the ILT20 is all set and with the tournament looming on the horizon, a set of new rules has been introduced for the upcoming season. The most popular of them is the inclusion of the super-sub. Similar to the role of the Impact Player used in the IPL 2023, the upcoming season of the ILT20 will feature super subs as well.

The tournament will be played in the UAE from January 13, 2024, and the league management announced that the super-sub must be named immediately after the toss from a set of seven names that teams will need to submit along with the playing XI.

Furthermore, the super-sub can be brought in at any time after the first over of the match or even at the start of the second innings. Another condition set by the tournament has been that at least two UAE players must be part of the playing XI at all times in every franchise.

Penalty for slow over-rate announced for the upcoming season

Furthermore, similar to the ICC tournaments and various T20 leagues across the globe, the ILT20 also announced a penalty for slow over rates. The rules were updated so that if the bowling team is an over behind the cut-off time, then only four fielders will be permitted to go outside the 30-yard circle.

For two overs behind, only three fielders can stand outside the 30-yard circle; for three overs behind, a financial penalty of 5% of the match fee per over will be applicable in addition to allowing three fielders in the outfield.

With the tournament right around the corner, the six franchises will again be keen on putting in their best performances and getting their hands on the coveted title. Gulf Giants will be coming into the tournament as the defending champions, having defeated Desert Vipers in the summit clash in the inaugural edition, and it could be interesting to see which side goes all the way in 2024.
