How can Rishabh Pant secure over INR 27 Crore in IPL 2025? (Source -Twitter/X)
Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history when he was roped in by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a whopping INR 27 crore on Sunday, November 24, during the mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Delhi Capitals dropped a bombshell last month when they released their former captain into the auction pool. Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad expressed their interest in signing the flamboyant wicketkeeper-batter but the Super Giants persevered. Delhi Capitals decided to exercise one of their Right To Match (RTM) cards with the amount being INR 20 crore. However, the Super Giants gave a final bid of INR 27 crore and the Capitals decided against offering that much to the 27-year-old.
However, Pant will earn a bit more than the INR 27 crore. This is because of the new rule set by the IPL Governing Council, which is to award match fees to the players. Before the auction, it was announced that a player would get INR 7.50 lakh for each match they play from IPL 2025. Therefore, if a player plays all 14 matches in the round-robin phase of the tournament, he will earn 1.05 crore added to the existing salary. So, if Pant, who is expected to be appointed as the new LSG captain, plays all 14 games in the round-robin phase of IPL 2025, he will earn INR 28.05 crore this season.
Why IPL 2025 is important for Rishabh Pant?
Pant returned to competitive cricket during IPL 2024 and had a sensational season with the bat for the Capitals. He scored 446 runs at an average of 40.55 and a strike rate of 155.40. The Delhi cricketer was subsequently picked in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad and played all the games. However, barring the first couple of matches, he could not make a mark.

In recent T20Is, fellow wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, who is also the captain of Rajasthan Royals, has done a remarkable job at the top of the order for the Men in Blue. He has registered three T20I centuries in his last five matches. Pant will want to have a solid season at his new franchise and stake a claim for a spot in India’s T20 squad.
