'Goodbyes are never easy' - Rishabh Pant pens heartfelt note after end of nine-year association with Delhi Capitals

Rishabh Pant pens heartfelt note after the end of a nine-year association with Delhi Capitals (DC)

Rishabh Pant started his Indian Premier League (IPL) journey with the Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2016 and went on to lead the team for the first time in 2021. After finishing as the highest run-getter for the franchise in IPL 2024, he was expected to be the first retention for the Capitals ahead of the mega auction. However, the Delhi-based franchise dropped a bombshell last month when they released the wicketkeeper-batter.

Pant was roped in by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a whopping INR 27 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. After the marathon mega auction came to an end, Pant bid farewell to the Capitals by thanking the fans for their constant support, especially during his recovery from a horrific car accident.

“Goodbyes are never easy. The journey with Delhi Capitals has been nothing short of amazing. From the thrills on the field to the moments of it, I’ve grown in ways I never imagined. I came here as a teenager and we grew together over the last nine years,” Rishabh Pant wrote on his social media handles.

“What made this journey all worthwhile is you, the fans. You’ve embraced me, cheered for me, and stood by me in one of the toughest phases of my life. As I move on, I carry your love and support in my heart. I’ll look forward to entertaining you whenever I take the field. Thank you for being my family and making this journey so special,” he further added.

In all likelihood, Pant will be donning the captain’s hat at the Super Giants after his experience of leading the Capitals in 44 matches of which they won 24 and lost 19. The southpaw swapped jerseys with KL Rahul, who joined the Capitals for INR 14 crore.
