The Indian team orchestrated an emphatic win against Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. They won the game in Perth by 295 runs and will be beaming with confidence before the pink-ball Test in Adelaide which starts from December 6. It is worth noting that the last time India played a day and night Test in Australia, they registered their lowest total in Tests of 36 all out.

Before the crucial assignment, Indian team’s Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir will be returning to India due to a personal emergency. A BCCI source revealed that a family member of the former India opener has health issues and he will be back in Australia just before the second Test. For the unversed, Rohit Sharma, who missed the first Test due to personal reasons, has joined the team.

“Yes, Gambhir has left for back home in India due to a personal emergency. It seems that someone in his family has a health issue. However, he will be back in Australia on December 3, three days before the second Test (pink ball) Test at Adelaide,” a source in the BCCI told TOI.

Rohit Sharma is looking nice and sharp: Warner

Having an underwhelming performance previously in the pink-ball Test riding on their back, the Indian team has opted for a two-day pink-ball tour game scheduled to commence from November 30. In the absence of Gambhir, the onus will be on assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate, bowling coach Morne Morkel and fielding coach T Dilip to look after the preparations.

Rohit arrived in Australia and straightaway joined the dressing room during the play on Day 4 of the first Test. As soon as the India captain was caught by the camera person on screen, former Australia opener, David Warner welcomed the veteran as he was behind the microphone.

“And just during the lunch break here at the nets, we’ve got captain of India Rohit Sharma, who’s just arrived in the country. He is looking nice and sharp against his fellow countrymen here in the nets. We’ve got a few of the Indian fast bowlers bowling towards the captain ahead of the pink ball Test match starting the 6th of December in Adelaide. As we just see there Mukesh Kumar sending down a nice delivery. But it’s great to see the captain here and we’re looking forward to seeing him back out on the park here on Australian soil,” said Warner.
