In a significant development for Afghan cricket, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced that the seventh edition of the Etisalat Ghazi Amanullah Khan List A Tournament will be held for the first time in Kunduz.

This event marks a crucial step in the expansion of cricket across the country, bringing top-tier domestic competition to new regions of the country. The tournament, set to begin on July 10, 2024, at the Kunduz Cricket Ground, represents a major milestone in Afghanistan’s cricketing journey. Sayed Naseem Sadaat, Spokesperson and Public Relations Officer of the ACB, highlighted the importance of this event in an interview with The Kabul Times.

Furthermore, he also emphasized that the tournament’s records will be officially registered with the International Cricket Council (ICC). Notably, four teams will compete in this year’s tournament, Maiwand Champions, Pamir Legends, Mahipar Stars, and Hindukush Strikers. The event will follow a double round-robin format, with a total of 13 matches scheduled over 16 days. The finals are scheduled for July 25.

The decision to host the tournament in Kunduz aligns with the ACB’s strategy to decentralize cricket and nurture talent across different regions of Afghanistan. This move is expected to inspire local communities and pull out new cricketing talents from the area.

List A Cricket Tournament matches to be telecasted live

The tournament will experience a mix of national-level players and top-performing domestic talents, providing an excellent platform for young and emerging cricketers to gain valuable exposure and experience. Cricket fans across the country will be able to follow the action live, as the tournament will be broadcast on the RTA Sports Channel of National Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA).

The List A Tournament is a crucial component of Afghanistan’s domestic cricket structure, playing a vital role in player development and the overall growth of the sport in the country.

Its success clears the way for upcoming events in the Afghan cricket calendar, including the ninth edition of the Shpageeza Cricket League in August and the seventh edition of the Ahmad Shah Abdali First Class Tournament in September.
