Pakistan’s Test skipper Shan Masood has been under a lot of pressure as of late, after losing the recently concluded Test series against Bangladesh at home. Furthermore, Shan Masood began his reign as the captain with a 0-3 loss against Australia, and seeing Pakistan’s performances, many have come forward to question his abilities as the captain.

It is worth noting that Pakistan is set to take on England in an upcoming series, and with the side’s recent results, the frustration within the fans and the pundits has been reaching a new high.

The same was visible when a journalist presented a blunt question to Shan Masood in a recent press conference. In a clip that has been going viral all over social media, Shan Masood was asked by a journalist why the thought of stepping down has not come to his mind yet.

Seeing the question, the PCB director of media and communication, Sami Ul Hasan came forward and asked the journalists to look over their questions before asking them and treating Shan Masood with respect.

“Shan, you just said that as long as you’re given the opportunity, you’ll avail it. But doesn’t it come from within to step aside when you’ve been losing and the performances aren’t there?” the journalist asked.

We have to remain optimistic: Masood

Having lost back-to-back series, Pakistan’s hopes of reaching the World Test Championship final have been crushed. However, with the upcoming series, the side will hope to improve and make their fans believe in the side once more, and Shan Masood preached the same ideology of being optimistic.

“We are at a critical juncture as a team and we have to remain optimistic. The losses hurt, but it’s important to support the team, especially during tough times. It’s easy to make changes after a loss, but if we want to move forward, we must support our players,” Masood said during the press conference.
