Prabhsimran Singh’s maiden maiden IPL century, followed by a stellar bowling display from Harpreet Brar saw Punjab Kings defeat Capitals by a margin of 31 runs in match number 59 of the Indian Premier League 2023.

The host won the toss and decided to bowl first. Ishant Sharma drew the first blood as Shikhar Dhawan departed in the second over after scoring seven runs off five balls. Soon, Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma too lost their wickets cheaply, as Punjab Kings ended their powerplay on 46/3.

Prabhsimran Singh smashed his maiden IPL ton, smacking Delhi bowlers all around the ground in his knock of 103 off 65 balls, which included ten fours and six maximums. Little cameos from Sam Curran (20 off 24) and Sikandar Raza (11 off 7) helped Punjab Kings post a total of 167/7 in 20 overs.

In response, Delhi got off to a powerful start as David Warner and Phil Salt added 69 runs for the first wicket. Harpreet Brar drew the first blood for PBKS by sending Salt back after a 17-ball-21-run cameo. Soon, Mitchell Marsh and Rilee Rossouw followed suit, losing their wickets in quick succession.

While David Warner (54 0f 27) rose to his 60th fifty in IPL before getting dismissed by Harpreet Brar in the 9th over, it failed to suffice as none of the other Delhi batters could step up to support him. In the very next over, Axar Patel got dismissed by Rahul Chahar and DC’s lower-order batters led the fightback, which was not sufficient to chase the target of 168 as they managed to score only 136 in 20 overs.
