In a recent turn of events, Australian cricket star, David Warner is set to wrap up his ILT20 stint for the national side as he’s called back to the Aussie squad for the upcoming T20I series against the West Indies. The news was confirmed by Australian coach Andrew McDonald.

Warner, who recently bid adieu to red-ball cricket after the SCG Test, left many wondering about his T20I plans. However, the prolific opener declared his intention to continue in the shortest format, eyeing the T20 World Cup scheduled for June. Now, it seems those plans are in full swing as he’s summoned back for the West Indies series.

Currently flaunting his skills in Dubai with the ILT20, representing the Dubai Capitals, a team under his IPL franchise, the Delhi Capitals, Warner’s return to the Aussie squad was necessitated by the T20I series against the West Indies and the subsequent clashes with New Zealand.

McDonald made it clear and said that Davey would be picked and he’ll come back from the ILT20. The coach emphasized that Warner is integral to their plans, and he’s expected to join the squad by February 7.

“Davey will be picked, he’ll come back from the ILT20 (in the UAE. I think most of our players that are going over there are due back on the 7th (of February) in preparation for the T20 in Hobart so Davey will be a part of those plans,” the coach said on Saturday, as quoted by Yahoo Sports.

A lot of the World Cup planning is in place at the moment: McDonald

With the T20 series against the West Indies kickstarting on February 9, just days after the conclusion of the ODI series, McDonald hinted at some squad rotations.

“No it’ll be a different squad, we’ll look to be at full strength for the New Zealand series, we’ve got six games before the World Cup, a lot of the World Cup planning is in place at the moment … the West Indies series will be slightly nuanced,” he added.

As preparations intensify for the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies, Warner’s return adds an extra layer of anticipation to the Australian squad’s dynamic. Cricket fans are sure to keep a close eye on how this T20 maestro shapes up for the challenges ahead.
