The 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to take place in at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bengaluru on September 29. The state associations have been informed about the details of the AGM on Thursday, September 5, through notices. The meet will coincide with the inauguration of the much-talked-about High Performance Centre in the city.

One of the most interesting aspects of the upcoming AGM is that the election of a new secretary for the board is not on the agenda. Many were of the opinion tht the new secretary will be elected at the AGM, following Jay Shah’s appointment as the independent chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). However, Shah’s successor is not going to be decided at the forthcoming AGM, unless some last-minute tweaks occur.

If the AGM goes as planned, the BCCI will have to arrange a Special General Meeting (SGM) to elect the new secretary, understandably before Shah’s tenure as the ICC chairman officially begins on December 1.

The two-page, 18-point agenda includes the customary things usually discussed and decided at the AGM, such as the appointment of a representative to the ICC. A lot of attention will be on this development as Shah will no longer be eligible to represent the BCCI at the global organisation and the Board will have to appoint someone who is well aware of how and what things take place in ICC meetings.

It is believed that BCCI President Roger Binny will have a big role to play in the AGM as it is being held in his hometown, Bengaluru. There is also a possibility of the former India all-rounder being appointed as BCCI’s representative to the ICC. Binny had replaced Sourav Ganguly as the BCCI president in October 2022.

As per a Cricbuzz report, some of the other things on the agenda are election and induction of two representatives of the general body in the governing council of the Indian Premier League (IPL), induction of one representative from the Indian Cricketers’ Association in the IPL Governing Council, adoption of the annual budget, appointment of Ombudsman and Ethics Officer. The AGM also has to appoint a Cricket Committee and Standing Committee as per the Constitution. An Umpires Committee is also set to be formed at the AGM.

Of significance is an item which states ‘Report of the Internal Committee of BCCI formed under Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policy’. Any Full Member can send a notice to the secretary 21 days before the AGM.
