Former cricketer Basit Ali did not hold back at taking a jibe at Babar Azam’s recent performances following Pakistan’s loss to the West Indies in the second Test in Multan. The defeat, which leveled the two-match series at 1-1, exposed several weaknesses in the Pakistan lineup. Basit pointed out Babar’s inability to capitalize on his starts and asked him to learn from West Indies spinner Gudakesh Motie.

In the second Test, Babar perished early, scoring just one run off five deliveries in the first innings and a mere 31 runs off 67 balls in the second. Despite being the team’s key batter, his performances fell far short of expectations. On the other hand, left-arm spinner Motie displayed his batting skills under pressure. Batting at No. 9 in the first innings, the southpaw scored 55 off 87 deliveries, contributing significantly to the visitors’ 120-run victory. Basit praised Motie’s batting technique and his shot selection.

“Babar Azam needs to learn batting from Motie. How to go front on the ball which is front and back on the ball which is back. It doesn’t mean that you won’t learn if you are a big player. The learning process should keep going on. Motie batted the best in this Test,” he said on his YouTube channel.

Unknown players team beat Pakistan: Basit Ali

The former further bashed the entire Pakistan team for being outplayed by a West Indies side considered a “B” or “C” team, who are filled with relatively unknown players like Mikyle Louis, Amir Jangoo, and Kavem Hodge, asking for introspection within the team.

“The B team, C team, unknown players team, unknown bowlers, unknown batters West Indies team has beaten Pakistan by 120 runs. Win-loss keeps happening. I am not going to do any post mortem because people think we do it for views. Let people think what they want. People will tell things, their work is to tell things,” Basit Ali added.
