As expected, most of the English players competing in the Indian Premier League 2024, have flown back to the UK. The England Cricket Board wanted the players back to regroup in order to prepare for the T20 World Cup 2024. England are scheduled to play a T20I series against Pakistan as preparation for the mega tournament and wanted all their senior players to be available for the series.

As a result, the English players would not be available for the final two weeks of the biggest franchise tournament. A lot of the franchises have English players and have a big problem on their hands in order to replace them for the crucial few games of the season. One of the teams is Kolkata Knight Riders, as they would be without their star wicket-keeper batter Phil Salt.

The opener replaced fellow Englishman, Jason Roy prior to the start of the season as he opted out to prioritise family time. Salt had been in impeccable touch for the team as his aggressive approach helped the side set up massive totals more often than not, and it would be a huge miss for the franchise during the play-offs. Let’s take a look at the three players in the KKR squad who can replace the English opener.

Here are the 3 Players who can replace Phil Salt as KKR’s opener for IPL 2024

3. Sherfane Rutherford

A left-field approach can be taken by the Kolkata Knight Riders, as they can look to bring an overseas bowler to strengthen their bowling attack. They can use the Impact Player rule to their advantage and use KS Bharat as an Impact Player to only keep while the side is fielding.

Meanwhile, for their main team they can add Sherfane Rutherford to the playing XI who can be a valuable addition for both their batting and bowling. He is a great all-rounder for the West Indies and with him in the squad, it would give a lot of options to the skipper as well as the team management.

2. KS Bharat

Kolkata Knight Riders made a bold decision of signing KS Bharat as a back-up wicketkeeping option during the IPL 2024 Auctions for a base price of INR 50 Lakh. That decision might come good now since there is a vacancy for a wicket-keeper batter. He can open the batting for the side and is a handy gloves-man behind the wicket.

Although he has not lived up to his expectations with the bat for the national side in Tests, he is untested in T20s till now. This can be a great opportunity to prove his critics wrong and show that he is capable of playing in the biggest franchise league in the world.

1. Rahmanullah Gurbaz

The franchise has a perfect replacement waiting in the wings already in the form of Rahmanullah Gurbaz. The Afghanistan cricketer was the overseas player that started most of the games for the franchise in 2023 but missed out on his spot because of the performances of Phil Salt.

This would be the perfect chance for the franchise to start Gurbaz, and he can also play with the same attacking approach that the Englishman used this season. The team management has backed him in the past and on his day, he can be a clear match winner for the team. This would be a great opportunity for the Afghan batter as well to prove to everyone that he is capable of performing against the best bowlers in the world.
