Top 5 batting performances of Jan Brittin in Tests

Women’s cricket has come a long way from where it was and we have seen some great cricketers throughout the years who have impressed us. Though we are enjoying seeing our favourite Women cricketers perform against each other, we have to remember that Women cricketers go a long way and there have been some great cricketers through the years.

One of the best Women cricketers we were introduced to was none other than England’s top-order batter Jan Brittin, who played some great innings in international cricket. There is no doubt that she has great numbers in ODI cricket, but we cannot forget her iconic performances in Test cricket as well, where she has scored 1935 runs in just 27 games at a phenomenal average of 49.61.

Here are the Top 5 best performances from Jan Brittin in Test cricket:

5. 112 vs Australia Women in 1984

This was the first Test in Australian conditions at Perth where the England innings was struggling a bit in the second innings. It was Brittin’s knock of 112 that kept the England Women in the game and made sure the match did not slip away from their hands. Brittin was one of the best performers in the game and though it ended in a draw it was still a great match where we saw the class of the batter.

4. 125 vs India Women in 1986

This was another iconic knock from Jan Brittin, who, along with her captain Carole Hodges, formed an important partnership, and went on to score another big hundred. This helped the England Women get to a decent score in the first innings and put the Indians under pressure. Though this match ended without a result, it was the innings of Jan Brittin within the England team that was the highlight of the entire game.

3. 144 vs New Zealand Women in 1984

It is always great to see batters scoring runs even on the most challenging wickets. The surface in Leeds was generating a lot of seam and bounce that made it tough for the batters. However, Jan Brittin stood her ground and carried the entire England Women innings scoring a magnificent 144 to keep the game in the balance. England Women went on to score 256 and put the Kiwis under pressure. England women might have missed out on a win, but this innings from Brittin can never be forgotten at all.

2. 146 vs Australia Women in 1998

This was a high-scoring game against Australia Women where we saw Brittin give one of her best performances in Test cricket against a strong Aussie side. Brittin started to show a display of some phenomenal batting performances scoring 146 in the first innings and taking the England Women score to a total of 414. The Australian women might have come back stronger in the second, but Brittin still made sure that she saved the game for her side scoring a great half-century in the 2nd innings.

1. 167 vs Australia women in 1998

If you thought that Jan Brittin was done with the Aussies in that series, you were yet to experience something better in the 2nd Test. The Aussie batter did manage a decent total of 306 in the first, but Brittin once again played an innings of a lifetime scoring 167 runs and getting her team a lead in the match. This was another match which started as a thriller and ended in a draw eventually. However, this was perhaps one of the finest Test match innings played by Brittin which showed us why she was one of the icons of English cricket in that era.
