Top 3 umpires to stand in most number of international matches

An umpire in cricket renders several crucial judgments. The on-field umpires decide where to put the fielders and how to handle appeals for dismissals. They are in charge of running the game according to the correct regulations and rules. An umpire’s decision-making skills improve with more experience. The top three officials who have officiated the most games as umpires are listed below.

1) Aleem Dar (436 games)

Since the elite panel’s creation in 2002, the 54-year-old Dar had presided over an all-time high 144 test matches, 222 one-day internationals, and 69 Twenty20 matches.

He was the umpire for the T20 World Cup finals in 2010 and 2012 and Dar was the very first Pakistani umpire to compete on the elite panel. He presided over five World Cups for 50 over and seven for 20 over. From 2009 through 2011, he was recognized as the greatest umpire in the world for three straight years.

2) Steve Bucknor (331 games)

Between 1989 and 2009, Bucknor officiated a record 128 Test matches. He also officiated 181 One Day Internationals during this time, including five straight Cricket World Cup finals from 1992 to 2007. Steve Bucknor remembered making a number of poor choices when facing Indian Sachin Tendulkar in the course of his career.

On February 23, 2009, the ICC declared Bucknor’s decision to stop officiating matches in March 2009. His 20-year career as an official came to an end with the conclusion of his final Test match, the third Test between South Africa and Australia in Cape Town from March 19–23, and his final One Day International match, the fourth ODI between his home West Indies and England in Barbados on March 29.

3) Rudi Koertzen (309 games)

At the point of his retirement in 2010, Rudi Koertzen had officiated in 331 international games, a record that has since been surpassed by Pakistan’s Aleem Dar. Rudi Koertzen served on the ICC’s top panel of umpires for eight years starting in 2002.

However, the 2007 World Cup final was a misstep in his career. Koertzen served as the third umpire in that game in Barbados, when the officials faced criticism and were punished by the ICC after the game’s wild conclusion. Koertzen last participated in a representative game in an Indian T20 League game between Bangalore and Chennai in Bengaluru in 2011.
